Once in a while I post about my ambitions to earn a salary-sized income from my efforts on the internet. I have a few websites, mostly in education, which attract visitors from all over the world. The oldest of my current websites is the ESL Writing Wizard which I started in October 2005. Since then, I’ve gone on to make the Math Worksheet Wizard, Dolch-Words, and ESL-Kids. You can learn more about my sites on the Teacher Tools page.
There are so many statistics to check when running a bunch of websites that it can get quite addictive and time-consuming, not to mention frustrating when the numbers drop, but there’s also a lot of fun to be had, too. Among my favorite stats are my earnings (of course), country the visitor came from (I often get hits from Dubai!), and page impressions (or pageviews). What I like most about the pageviews is I can work out how often someone looks at one of my pages.
Monday was a record breaking day for pageviews. While not the most profitable, all my websites combined for a total of 6,650 page impressions. Now, my trusty calculator tells me that on average, I had one page view every 13 seconds, and I think that’s awesome!
As for my efforts to get a salary-sized income from the net, well I’m not there yet, but I’m sure a few more record breaking days will get me closer.
