The new advertising medium is blogging. Companies and individuals alike are increasingly taking advantage of blogs to promote their products and websites to audiences in highly targeted niches. For example, somebody with their own blog about raising children in Japan, or a language school looking to recruit teachers, might want to get a special mention on LongCountdown.com because these are topics that I blog about.
In the last year, the popularity of services such as PayPerPost has skyrocketed. Now, as a blogger, I can visit the PayPerPost site and choose from a selection of advertising “opportunities” that I’d like to blog about, and get paid for doing so.
Recently, a new service called PayPerPost Direct has been launched which makes the whole process more personal, giving advertisers the chance to buy posts on specific blogs, and the blogger more control over pricing and requirements. On the right-hand side of this blog, you can now see a PayPerPost Direct badge which when clicked, brings up a sponsored post request form:

This initiates a two-way conversation between the blogger and the advertiser so that you can accept, change, or decline the offer.
One of PayPerPost’s biggest competitors is a company called ReviewMe. They also like you to have a badge on your site so that an advertiser can order a post directly from you. However, ReviewMe takes a 50% cut, which if you ask me is just cheeky! After all, the advertiser has been directly to your site and wants to to order directly from you. What in the world have ReviewMe done to deserve 50% of the take? Nothing!
PayPerPost Direct on the otherhand, pays you 100% of your asking price, and charges the advertiser an additional 10%, half of which is used to cover the cost of credit card processing or PayPal fees. So, let’s say that you wanted to make 10 dollars. With ReviewMe, you’d need to charge the advertiser $20 because you only get half. With PayPerPost Direct, you can charge $10, and the advertiser will pay $11 ($10 to you, and $1 to PayPerPost).
As you can see PayPerPost Direct is a win-win situation for both the advertiser and the blogger. If you’d like to earn money while blogging, you can find more information on the PayPerPost blog.

Update: After 5 months with no review requests, I decided to remove the PPP Direct badge from the blog.
